Viral video of troops deployed in Lahore is a military drill
A viral video of soldiers patrolling the streets of Lahore has been mislead as sign of deteriorating law and situation in the country but is instead a military drill.
A video was shared on social which showed a large number of troops in uniform deployed on the streets of Lahore late at night.
Several social media users, particularly Indians and Afghanistan, used the opportunity to bash the country for law and order situation in the country.
They have cited the ongoing protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) for the worsening situation, while others claimed Pakistan was expected a strike by India ahead of the general elections there.
A social media user, who is presumed Afghan based on his X profile, shared the video, with the caption, “Pakistan is on the verge of collapse from all fronts. This is Lahore where 100s of Pakistani soldiers are full armed whilst parading the streets”.
Another Indian social media user, shared the same video with the caption, “Pakistan Army is sending heavy deployments to Azad Kashmir to tackle a peaceful protest for the freedom of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Heavy military can be seen in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Muree and most of the Punjab Pakistan areas.”
The video has now viral with many social media users questioning the reason for the presence of the troops. Some social users associated with a political party said the situation has worsened as their leaders remains incarcerated.
Fact Pakistan has concluded that it was routine military exercise which was notified before dawn. It was also announced the army.
The army released a statement saying, “The troops of the Pakistan Army’s IV Corps (Lahore) are conducting nighttime urban combat operations against a near-peer adversary in realistic conditions of a modern city in South Asia, due to which some of the participating soldiers may be seen for a short while on public roads connecting to the Lahore Cantonment area in the current phase of the simulation exercise. They will leave by first light.”
“This is a drill for military training purposes,” it added.
