Video showing ex-Iranian president Ahmadinejad ‘alive’ after death rumour is old

A video shows former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with claims he is alive and has appeared in public after surviving an assassination attempt.

An X account posted the video with the Farsi caption, “Ahmadinejad is in good health and well-being and visited the Martyrs cemetery this afternoon.”

The video is old and has resurfaced after a reported US-Israeli attack on the residence of the former president in Tehran lead to death rumours.

There were earlier reports that Ahmadinejad was killed in an airstrike on Tehran on Feb 28, 2026. Iranian outlet ILNA reported his death on March 1 in a strike on his residence.

This was later refuter by his party and an adviser said he remains unharmed. Iran state media has not confirmed his status leading to confusion and misinformation.

The video circulating on social media relates to Ahmadinejad appearing at a funeral and burial of the mother the former Chief of Staff Hasan Mousavi.

The video was posted on an Instagaram Feb 15. Thus, the claims that the video shows an appearance by Ahmadinejad after an assassination attempt are false.
