Social media account praising Imran Khan is FAKE

An account on social media site X, formerly Twitter, named Scott Bennett (@scottbennetth) has been found to be FAKE.

The account regularly showers praise on former Prime Minster Imran Khan and against the leadership of the PML-N particularly Nawaz Sharif.

The account claims to be based in London and is also critical of many policies of the British government.

Although the veracity of the individual running the page has not been determined, it has found that the Display Picture used in the account is fake.

A simple reverse sweep on the image reveals that picture appears on several website as shown below. The picture is stock image and can be licensed.

The social media account was formed in September 2017 and has 21,200 followers.

These tactics of using pictures of non-Pakistanis have often been used in the past by Mr Khan’s supporters presumably to give the impression that people outside Pakistan also support and admire him. Evidently, the idea is that such support shows his appeal across national boundaries.

In the past we have unearthed several such fake accounts. Many pretended to be Western women and upon examination their display pictures were found to be stolen from other social media accounts or stock images.
