President Trump didn’t say Pakistan PM ‘would have died’ in conflict without US intervention

Indian media outlets and social media accounts made an assertion that US President Donald Trump said that the prime minister of Pakistan would have died in the conflict between India and Pakistan if he had not intervened.

President Donald Trump delivered his annual State of the Union address to US Congress and commented on a range of issues including his efforts to end the war between India and Pakistan in May 2025.

Both countries fought a seven -day war during which Pakistan shot down six Indian aircraft. India, without provocation, attacked military installations inside Pakistan before US President Trump brokered a ceasefire to end the ceasefire. India has denied it sought US intervention.

A post by Indian media outlet, News18, on X was captioned saying, “”Pakistan PM would have died if it were not for me,” US President Donald Trump makes big claim on Operation Sindoor during his State Of The Union address.”

The report said, “There was one important aspect that one also, in fact, started this day with that is the State of the Union address of the US President Donald Trump. So Donald Trump in that address has exposed Pakistan’s lies on Operation Sindoor.

“He has gone on to reiterate that he averted major India Pakistan conflict. And in fact, Trump also boasted that the Prime Minister of Pakistan would have quote died if it were not for his involvement, and even claimed that Shehbaz Sharif pleaded for his support, stating that millions will die in Pakistan.”

Renowned Indian media outlet, Economic Times, posted on X saying, “Pakistan PM would have died if it wasn’t for me,’ Trump’s nuclear claim Donald Trump said in his State of the Union that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif “would have died” without his intervention during India’s Op Sindoor onslaught on Pakistan, claiming he prevented a potential India-Pakistan nuclear conflict.”

Similar claims were made on India-based social media accounts as seen here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

Fact Check

The claims are misleading and the comments of the US President have been distorted and misrepresented by the Indian media.

A partial transcript of the president’s speech is as follows, “My first 10 months, I ended eight wars, including Cambodia. Isn’t it funny? Sick people. Cambodia and Thailand.

“Pakistan and India would have been a nuclear war. 35 million people said the Prime Minister of Pakistan would have died if it were not for my involvement.”

The US president said that the PM of Pakistan told him that “35 million people” would have died in the conflict if the US had not intervened and reached a ceasefire. He does not say the Prime Minister of Pakistan would be died in the war.
