Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society disowns X account calling for army chief’s resignation
Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society (PESS) has disowned posts on social media site X which passed defamatory remarks against the army.
The X account, @ex_pess had issued a statement calling for the resignation of the Army Chief and DG ISI after allegedly manipulating the recent elections.
However, the original Pakistan Ex Servicemen Society (PESS) has clarified that the posts on social media are not the statements of the group. It said the Lieutenant General (Retired) Abdul Qayyum is the President of PESS, and Vice Admiral Abdul Aleem is the senior vice president.
In a statement, it said the @PESS_Official is the only Twitter (X) account representing the Pakistan Ex Servicemen Society (PESS). The accounts is currently suspended by the social media site.
“Unfortunately, the previous PESS platform on Twitter (X) has been hijacked by an individual who was sentenced to 14 years through the Field General Court Marshal (FGCM), he was an ex-member of PESS, he was also shunted out of the Army and is now hiding abroad and using this platform for his personal grudges/ vendettas and spreading anti state/anti Armed Forces propaganda,” the statement said.
It said the “dismissed ex-army officer has confirmed linkages to RAW and India and works on their instructions against the state” and had been “tasked to create wedge” between the armed forces and the nation.
“The official handle of PESS is being managed by Lieutenant General Abdul Qayyum himself from his personal account.”
Also as reported in The News, Ex-Servicemen Society President Gen (retd) Abdul Qayyum said that attempts are being made to defame the Pakistan Army.
Low-handed tactics are being used by making allegations of rigging in the elections. He demanded that those levelling allegations against the army be exposed and punished.
He said that peaceful elections were held across the country on February 8. He pointed out that some people did not want the polls to be held. He said that at the behest of foreign powers, some retired convicted officials sitting abroad are involved in malicious propaganda against the intelligence agencies, the armed forces and their leadership.
He said that such people want to spread chaos and lawlessness in the country. He reiterated his commitment to play every possible role for the welfare of the ex-servicemen and their families.
He saluted the judiciary over the holding of the elections. He demanded that the innocent people not be misguided and the election results be accepted. He said that no other country has the right to talk about Pakistan’s internal affairs. .
He also said that the soldiers of the Pakistan Army sacrifice their lives every day. He pointed out that the peaceful holding of the general elections despite unfavourable circumstances in Pakistan has been termed a good omen.
He said that his organisation is a non-political forum that has been working for the welfare of the ex-servicemen of the country and for solving their problems.
