Fact Check

A fire erupted on January 16, 2026, at the Karachi port terminal and engulfed 20 containers. As per initial investigations, the fire was caused by a short circuit and the presence of chemicals in the containers.

Geo News reported that initial reports suggested that the fire may have originated in chemical containers, while some affected containers were carrying electronic items, chemicals, clothes, and lithium batteries.

Daily Dawn reported that “20 containers, mostly containing electrical batteries, were destroyed as a huge fire erupted at the Karachi Port Trust (KPT)”.

There is no indication that a weapons consignment arrived at the Karachi port. No foul play or act of terrorism has been suspected in the incident. There is no credible source or media report citied in the frivilous claim.

Indian accounts reported the fake news within hours after the fire erupted. This is part of a combined effort to spread discord and malign the armed forces of Pakistan.

Thus, the reports of fire erupting in an army weapons consignment are false.
