FALSE: MQM-P banner thanking army chief is fake

An image circulating online purports to show banners displayed by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) thanking the army chief for the elections.

“Shukriya Hafiz sahib (Thank you Mr. Hafiz),” reads the text on the supposed banner.

The image was also shared by PTI leader and former spokesperson Dr Shahbaz Gill on his social media account.

The image has been manipulated. The original banner thanks the people of Karachi, not the army chief.

The MQM-P had placed banners across Karachi after the election to thank the people of the city after emerging victorious in the city.

The original banners had the Urdu text which read: “Shukriya Karachi (Thank you Karachi)”.

It must be noted that font type, colour and size of the word “Shukriya (Thank you)” and that of the words “Hafiz sahib” do not match in the original photo which suggests that it has been edited.
