FALSE: Bangladesh cricketer Liton Das’ house was not set on fire
A picture shared on social media platforms claimed that the house of Bangladesh cricketer Liton Das was set on fire by protestors as he belongs to the Hindu community.
A user shared the images them with a caption saying, “He is Liton Das, a Bangladeshi cricketer. He is a national Hero of Bangladesh. His house was set on fire by Islamists. This is the condition of an elite Hindu of Bangladesh. Just imagine the condition of common Hindus. #SaveBangladeshiHindus.”
The claim is FALSE. According to media reports, the house of Liton Das was not attacked or set on fire.
The image in the viral post shows the house of former Bangladeshi cricket team captain and Awami League Member of Parliament (MP) Mashrafe Mortaza being vandalized by protestors.
The images have also been posted on several media outlets from Bangladesh and India. The news reports said that several people had vandalised and set fire to the house of Mortaza.
Mashrafe Mortaza is a respected figure both in cricket and politics butt found himself caught in the crossfire of this chaos.
Mortaza, who is a member of Parliament from the Narail-2 constituency in Khulna division, won his seat again as an Awami League candidate led by Sheikh Hasina in the general elections earlier in 2024
