Fact Check: Atta Tarar was not attacked by local residents in viral video

A video circulating on social media purportedly shows local residents attacking the vehicle of PML-N leader Attaullah Tarar as he went for election campaign in his constituency.

The video was also shared on X, formerly Twitter, by PTI leader Shahbaz Gill. A careful analysis revealed that the video does not relate to Ata Tarar.

The incident occurred earlier this year in Gujrat on when local residents attacked the vehicle of the nephew of former chief minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

The enraged locals attacked the vehicle of Chaudhry Moosa Elahi and his companions with bricks and sticks after he arrived at the upgradation ceremony of a hospital.

The locals said their forefathers donated lands for the hospital and it should not be renamed after Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi. A case was registered against 34 nominated and 100 unknown persons.

Social media activist Farhan Virk also clarified that the video does not relate to the PML-N. He said fake journalists of PTI along with Shehbaz Gill are sharing the video of 17 January 2023 from Gujarat. He said the video is of Chaudhry Wajahat’s son, who was a part of the PTI at that time.
