FACT CHECK: Afghan Taliban did not blow up Friendship Gate border crossing in Pakistan
Several India and Afghanistan based or supportive social media users claimed that the Afghan Taliban have destroyed the Friendship Gate border crossing along the Pakistan Afghanistan border.
Afghan Taliban spokesperson, Zabeehullah Mujahid, shared a post on X, with a video of the alleged attack on the border post. The post can be viewed here.
An Indian social media user, known for spreading disinformation and posts against Pakistan, shared the news with the post, “The so called Pakistan Afghan “friendship” gate at the Chaman border has been blown up by Afghan forces.”
An India based user posted, “The Chaman Spin Boldak border friendship gate between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been destroyed.”
Another X user posted, “The Afghan forces have completely overrun the Pakistan checkpoint gate and entered Pakistan…. The Pakistan army can no longer retreat; they are been attacked from the Afghan forces.”
Fact Check
Fact Check Pakistan has determined the picture is AI generated and manipulated. This can be noted by visual distortions in the image such the border marking, shadows, and a flag on the ground.
It must also be noticed the picture relates to Torkham border that is located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the Chaman Spin Baldok border is located in Balochistan.
Conclusion
Pakistani security sources have also dismissed the claim that the Chaman border crossing was destroyed from the Pakistani side.
In a post on, PTV citing security sources said the “Afghan Taliban’s false propaganda of destroying Pak-Afghan Friendship Gate in Chaman has been exposed.”
“Afghan Taliban’s attempted to destroy the gate on their side and make it appear as the part on the Pakistani side. It can be seen in the video that the Pak-Afghan Friendship Gate on the Pakistani side is in perfect condition.
It added that the “Afghan Taliban are trying to hide their defeat and loss through false social media propaganda and “following the same path of false propaganda of the Indian media.”
Fact Check Pakistan concluded there is credible evidence based on manipulated images, false representation, and statement by Pakistani security officers, and the claimed that Friendship Gate has been destroyed is FALSE.
