Caretaker PM Kakar didn’t post about Dawood Ibrahim’s death

There were recently intense rumours circulating in Indian media that crime kingpin Dawood Ibrahim has allegedly being poisoned in Karachi.

Some social media users fell victim to a screenshot circulating online which purportedly shows Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar posting on X about the death of Dawood Ibrahim.

A similar fake post appeared purportedly showed a similar tweet by former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif expressing his condolences.

The claim is false. The X account that made the post is fraudulent and the post  has been digitally created. The online account that uploaded the post, attributed to Pakistan’s prime minister, is not genuine.

There is no evidence to support the claim that PM Kakar or Shahbaz Sharif shared any posts confirming Dawood Ibrahim’s death

The fabricated account even misspells the prime minister’s name on the handle. While his original account reflects the username ‘@anwaar_kakar’, the post in the claim shows it as ‘@anwaar_kakkar’.

The self-generated post also does not have a Bookmark icon, which is present every time a post is composed on X.

Fact Check Pakistan scrolled through all the posts on Kakar’s timeline on December 18, the day he is alleged to have posted about Dawood Ibrahim. It could not find any such post uploaded on that day neither does it appears to have been deleted.

The claim comes after unverified reports of the fugitive kingpin being hospitalized stating that Ibrahim was admitted to a hospital in Karachi after being poisoned by unknown persons.
