Burmese people in Saudi Arabia getting Pakistani passports?
A former Pakistani journalist has made a series of misleading tweets on the Saudi-Pakistan-Rohingya issue. The tweets have been used by PTI supporters to make the absurd (and wrong) claim that this is a plan to register new voters who will vote for the PDM parties
First of all, the figure of 4 million is wrong. There is around one-tenth that number of Rohingya Muslims in Saudi Arabia. They already had Pakistani citizenship till 2012 and Pakistan stopped renewing their passports because many had shifted to Saudi Arabia. It is this issue
That Saudi Arabia now wants to be addressed and this was discussed during a recent visit to Islamabad by the Saudi deputy Interior Minister. If Pakistan does renew its passports, it will not be the first time – that has been done several times before.
Furthermore, the number of “4 million” quoted by the former journalist has no basis in reality or fact.
