Fact Check Pakistan is non-partisan, independent fact checker that believes that media has a responsibility to combat fake news and to check the dissemination of wrong information, misinformation and disinformation. We have been operational since January 2022.

Methodology

We focus on false claims and fake news being spread on social media or other media outlets. We regularly monitor Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp and traditional media outlets to find claims to fact check.

We keep an eye on fake news that has the potential to go viral across social platforms. We also fact check statements, speeches, and social media posts made by or misattributed to political figures and government officials that could impact public opinion.

We focus on dubious claims that might be launched to spread misinformation, targeting any specific person or entity, historical and scientific inaccuracies, or factually incorrect information. We also focus on viral pictures and videos circulating on social media that has been launched to spread misinformation.

We check reliable local and global news websites and gather all information regarding the claim. We verify the information through online research. If required, we contact the person or organisation who made the claim or to whom the claim has been attributed.

We attempt to ascertain the origin of the image or video by taking a close look to verify of the origin or the image/video. We use tools such as Reverse Google Image Search to locate the source of an image and check if it has been modified or altered.
