Video of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa on fire is AI-generated

A video shows the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building in Dubai, set of fire with the claim that it was hit by an Iranian missile strike.

A spoof account on X, Mojtaba Khamenei, shared the video with the caption, “We fired 1,800 missiles at the Burj Khalifa. Every single missile hit the target.” The video has been viewed 8.5 million times.

The video gained prominence as an Iranian drones struck several targets in Dubai. A drone was even spotted close to the iconic skyscraper.

Social media users such as this spoof account are posting fake videos and spreading misinformation amid regional tensions.

The video has glaring inconsistencies and glitches such as the flame, building structure and onlookers walking into one another – a common feature of AI content.

This was further confirmed after being analysed by AI content detection software.
