Misleading: No Sindhi uprising in Karachi, video relates to culture day protests

India-based propaganda social media accounts claimed that riots have erupted in Karachi where the Sindhi community has started an uprising protesting for the creation of Sindhudesh.

An X user, known for posting content against Pakistan, said, “Sindhi Uprising Hits Karachi. Protests erupted in Karachi as thousands of Sindhi citizens took to the streets demanding Sindhudesh. What the world calls “unrest,” the people are calling a fight for identity, rights, and recognition.”

Similar posts were also made on other accounts as seen here, here, here, and here. The news was picked up mainstream Indian media outlets WION, FirstPost, India Today, and News18.

Fact Check

Fact Check Pakistan determined the video is misleading and the claims are false.

The video relates to a rally carried out by a Sindh nationalist party to celebrate the Sindh Cultural Day in Karachi that turned violent after police stopped the participants from moving from a key thoroughfare Shahrae Faisal to the Karachi Press Club located in a high-security zone.

Police resorted to shelling to disperse the participants, while some miscreants damaged public property. This incident widely covered by local media.

Indian accounts are using the videos to portray a sense of lawlessness and anarchy in Pakistan. Thus, the claims that the video shows Sindhis protesting for a separate state are FALSE.
