Fact Check: Video doesn’t show the army burning homes in Karachi

An India based social media user posted a video claiming that the Pakistan Army was destroying the homes owned by Pashtuns in Karachi.

The X user, who regularly posts content against Pakistan, said, “Pashtun homes and businesses are being burned by the Pakistan Army in Karachi.”

Fact Check Pakistan determined the claim is false. The post is defamatory and intends to malign the armed forces to Pakistan and spread discord and hatred towards an ethnicity,

The video relates to a fire that erupted at an animal shed in Memon Goth area of Karachi. The incident was widely covered by the local Pakistani media seen here, here, here, and here.

The video matches the pictures in the news reports, and thus verifying that claim that the fire erupted in an animal shed where cattle were killed.

Thus, the claim that the video shows the homes of the Pashtun community being targeted in Karachi by the army are FALSE.
