FACT CHECK: Video of Karachi port attack relates to US plane crash

Indian social accounts shared fake news that the Karachi port has been destroyed and shared an old, unrelated video to prove their baseless claims.

 An Indian user with the X handle @SumitHansd shared a series of video captioned, “Scenes of Karachi Fort (sic) which is getting cooked by INS Vikrant.” The post has been viewed at least 817k times.

Another user with X handle @MayankRighteous posted saying, “INS Vikrant has attacked & burned down Karachi Port #Indian Navy.” The post has been viewed 242k times.

The claim that the Indian Navy attacked the Karachi port is fake and has not been reported by the mainstream media in Pakistan.

Fact Check Pakistan determines the video is old and unrelated. The audio has been added to mislead the viewers.

A simple reverse image search shows that the video relates to small plane crash in Philadelphia, USA on Feb 1, 2025.

A short video on YouTube uploaded by Hakan Tuluan titled, “Update on the Plane that Crashed in Philadelphia What is Going On”, has the footage as the video of the alleged attack on Karachi port.

It can be concluded that the video is old, altered and completely unrelated.
